Under federal laws and regulations, a credit union cannot advertise a free share draft account if you could be charged a maintenance or activity fee. However, your credit union can offer a free share draft account and still charge for certain services such as check/share draft printing, ATM use, or overdrafts.
A local credit union advertised a free share draft account. I signed up. Now the credit union is charging me for checks/share drafts and for overdrafts. Isn't this misleading?
